I'm Wendy Smith's Guest Today: "On Waiting"

Today, I'm over at Wendy Smith's blog for her Grand Re-Opening after blog renovations, and it sure does look swank. I believe she's also giving away prizes, so hop on over there.

For my post, I selected one near and dear to my heart this days: Waiting.

I’ve heard actors describe their jobs as mostly waiting with brief periods of action. I’ve also heard this is the common experience of people in prison, police officers, and even soldiers at war. The action might be strenuous, stressful, and/or traumatic, but 90% of the time requires patience and the skill of waiting.

Writing is a lot like that, too. We do a lot of waiting. Waiting for a book to sell, or a review to come. Waiting for a reader to finish, or a contract to be offered. Waiting for a rejection or an acceptance. Waiting for inspiration, or for energy; waiting, waiting for that break to finally happen. Waiting for a release or edits, or waiting for a cover to come through. There’s a lot of waiting. And worrying.

Writers need patience.

Wendy, what does it feel like to have a book published?

That is a great question while I was sitting at Olive Garden talking to one of my best friends we were discussing how after 6 months of just doing it my first book is going to be published. I told her that it almost seems surreal to me; after all this all started as a dare at her house between my husband and myself. See for some reason my hubby thought that since I buy so many books that they might be considered tax deductible. Dawnn and I laughed so hard at that thought; then he suggested that since we thought that it was so funny that we should write a book. Well we went home, I sat down in front of my computer and the next thing you know I had over 3000 words and Chase, Rachel, Toni, Allison, Drake, Joey and Mike were coming to life. Since that time my partner in pen, Mollie Fiegel, and myself have developed and watched these characters come to life, grow, love, hate, hurt and rejoice in our books. We also created a second set of books that came to me one morning in the shower, Ok, I know that is probably not the most creative way to have an idea but seriously I will wake up and have an idea so I put it on paper or run it past Mollie on our way to work.

I am super excited and thrilled that after we submitted Chase’s Love that it was accepted and now being published. I just hope that everyone that reads it is as thrilled as I am with the book.

Wendy Smith was born on Feb 8, 1971 in Neosho, MO, she was raised in Joplin, MO and graduated in 1989 from Joplin High School. She currently lives in central Arkansas with her husband of 14 years, 2 grown children, 5 dogs and a cockatiel. The idea of writing a book was suggested by her husband while swimming with friends, "Since you read books all the time and buy them you should just write one" with this idea and support from her friends Wendy Smith wrote her first book Chase's Love.
